Dr. Redux

Powers: Commands pre-existence energy that manipulate energies of this dimension

The overall idea is that there are pre-dimensions that converge to form our own. (They are "pre" in the sense that a structures foundation comes before the rest of the structure. Once the structure is built then the foundation exists parallel to the rest of it.) These dimensions are almost entirely alien to our own as it is a blending of them rather then a simple combination that creates existence. You could say they are "parent” or “component dimensions". They are entirely self-sustaining and are wide ranging in type. No set number of dimensions. The one Dr. Redux has access to, is the primary energy component of our dimension. --Theoretically there are others, such as animal, plant, geological, etc... but this character doesn't delve into those.

 

The energy he wields has a natural tendency to manipulate/impact physical energies, and Dr. Redux has learned to use that power for the purpose of reconstruction and healing. The “parental” aspect of the energy lends itself to do most of the work involved in the reconstruct/healing process. Dr. Redux does not have to calculate energy/mass ratios. As far as the gauge for his power, I'll give a few examples: a trailer home reduced to toothpicks would take him about 5 minutes to reconstruct. Reconstructing a 5-story building, about an hour. Organic healing is quicker, mostly because of size. It is more complex, though. He must sync with the bodies natural healing process for a flawless healing. If time is of the essence, he can bypass the synchronization, but that results in minor complications and scarring. Since his power is effectively the predecessor to all physical energies, he can greatly enhance (amplify) or nullify (absorb) physical energies. He could fly if he had to (nullifying gravity), but he prefers to stay ground level with the normal folk. He presently has a mastery of energies associated with natural disasters and of light, and is in the process of mastering the manipulation of others.

The energy itself must be in contact with the material or person that is its target (for whichever purpose). He can reconstruct or heal through a projection of energy, but much prefers the hands on approach. As a way of mental focus, he uses his fingers to help him gauge the amount of energy released. Example: One finger=low output, whole hand=large out put, both hands together=earth shaking output. The pre-energy manifests in part(specific manipulations) or in whole(raw form), depending on usage.

 

Battle:

Since his reconstruction ability is relatively slow, he tends not to use it in a fight unless he has teammates that give him time to do so. His ethics also prevent him from reconstructing any sort of weapon. In the event he needs to fight he prefers to think of himself as the weapon so that the responsibility for his actions never escapes his thoughts. He would only use the reconstruct ability for defense anyway.

 

He has learned a couple basic techniques that are instantaneous and more practical in a fight. He projects the raw energy in the form of a blast or a force field. At present, the raw form can only be assigned to manipulate light energy along with effects of the shield or blast (presumably because it is a dominant energy), but he continues training, carrying a small "physics for dummies" book in his coat that he studies as he travels. Being an otherworldly amalgam of most if not all of physical energies, they pack quite a wallop and are very solid. Being hit by this sort of blast would likely be very disconcerting as well. He has excellent control of the power output. Manipulating the energies around him is also a possibility. He would be a great asset to those with powers based on the normal laws of physics as he could enhance their abilities considerably. If he were fighting them, they would be at a severe disadvantage as he could nullify them almost completely.

 

As his character leans heavily towards a medical doctors ethics, he is not particularly battle savvy. He’s smart, but would be at a disadvantage fighting someone with combat training. He isn't afraid to "operate" though, so he’s no push over. He is at his greatest disadvantage against supernatural/magic users. He has no more defense against telepathic or spirit-realm attacks than a normal human. However, since most attacks have to manifest physically, he can defend against them to a degree. But the flexibility and unpredictability of spirit attacks can be too much to handle.

 

Character personality:

His biggest peeve is senseless destruction. If he is in the area during a fight between any people who seem to be forgetting the innocents around them, (good or evil), he will intervene without hesitation and with appropriate force. However, he tends to stay out of most battles as he avoids attention whenever possible. He focuses his time on rebuilding and healing after natural disasters and battles. He says little and try's to make himself available to those who need help. He can be stubborn when he is using his power and has on occasion ignored authorities who want him to stop because they often don't understand what he is doing. He has strict ethics about the value of life and his thinking is very mechanical when it comes to ethics as well as just about everything else. When needing to be in his alternate identity, he turns his coat inside-out (it appears as a normal trenchcoat on the reverse side). He collapses his hat, removes his gloves, mask, and glasses/goggles--and puts all of those inside his coat.

 

 Origin:

Micah moved from job to job in his life until he finally got a job as an assistant at a research lab. This lab was responsible for studying energies associated with natural diasters--primarily weather and geological phenomenon. His job was actually more like a janitors, but it gave him a few opportunities to study along with the scientists and learn a great deal. The lead researcher was Dr. Eric Nabel. A genius in his field who was experimenting with accessing a pre-existence dimension for the purposes of dampening the effects of storms, earthquakes, etc. Despite the top secret nature of the research, a man known only as Mr. Cayn found out about it. Mr. Cayn was a genius himself, but was extremely jealous of the accomplishments of others. He also believed that he should be the master of every significant form of energy for the purposes of dominating the world, but mostly for the sake of personal glory. Mr. Cayn carried a cane that is an eclectic composition of science and supernatural achievements. He systematically kills off leading scientists, mystics, monks and whoever else, and steals their power; which he adds to his cane. Mr. Cayn went to the lab intent on stealing the device that accesses the pre-energy and killing Dr. Nabel. Mr. Cayn broke into the lab, killed Dr. Nabel, and attempted to steal the device. Micah interfered and as a result, the device activated, and created an access point to the pre-dimension within himself. Enraged, Mr. Cayn destroyed the entire researched facility. Only a hasty and unfocused projection of his new energy prevented Micah for being mortally wounded. He was the only survivor.

This event profoundly effected Micah's view of the world. Even though disasters were common place, he never before witnessed the evil of that day. His already strong views about the value of life were greatly enhanced.

 

Micah already had a limited idea of what happened to him and what the energy he can now access was. He decided to use the gift as it was intended: To stop destruction. He used the knowledge he gained from assisting Dr. Nabel to learn how to use the pre-energy to manipulate the energies associated with natural disasters. He made it a goal to master storms, earthquakes, fire, and other sources of destruction. During his practice, he noticed the pre-energies "parental" aspect provided the inherent ability to reconstruct objects, including living tissue. He added this ability to his skills and made this as much a priority as the other skills. Hero status was largely accidental as he never really wanted any attention, only making and wearing a costume for the sake of preserving his identity. He deliberately designed the costume to appear quite different and relatively normal compared to the usual spandex. Despite all this, he earned the name Dr. Redux from those that witnessed his deeds. After the name caught on he accepted the status of "super hero" and designed a simple logo that he put on his shoulder. He chose a black and yellow striped shield pattern to represent construction and protection. Yellow because that is the color of the energy he wields, black to represent the work yet to be done.

During a more frustrating training session, learned that a powerful enough blast of the raw form of the energy was an incredibly strong force. He quickly developed this new technique to the point where he could wrap the energy around him as well as project it. Eventually, he developed enough concentration to manipulate light at the same time.
